ROUTE
The route: via Safaga and Luxor to Aswan
On the map Aswan does not look that far from Marsa Alam. For tourists, however, only one route is approved: along the coastal road to Safaga, on via Qena to Luxor and from there south along the Nile to Aswan. This makes the drive much longer than the straight line.
The shorter roads from Marsa Alam via Edfu or the southern route to Aswan are approved for locals only, not for tourist transfers.
For the drive to Aswan we issue two travel permits – one to Luxor and one on to Aswan. At the checkpoint in Safaga the driver shows the permit with the route. You don't need to do anything; just keep your passports at hand.
